Self-Care Strategies

Be honest with yourself....are you carving out time for self-care for yourself? Well how do you expect to do so without a plan in place? Let me be the first to tell you that when I would tell myself that I was going to have some self-care time after work I would get home exhausted and just forget about it and I would just go to sleep. I wasn't solving my problem and I was actually part of the problem; I wasn't setting myself up for success. So I'm here to tell you don't be like the old me....do better. I've been making plans and strategizing what I need to do in order to have a successful self-care day and here are some of those tips.


  1. Plan Ahead- So, typically I try to incorporate a mid-week self-care evening to reset my mind, body, and soul for the rest of the week. So what I do is I write out my self-care for the entire month. I use a planner, but you can do this in your phone or even in a blank notebook that you can use only for self-care planning. (Might I add that you can purchase a journal from my Self-Care Sundaze shop :) ). I plan for self-care twice a week and I usually do them on Wednesday and Sunday each week. You can decide to do whatever you want to do, but my favorite self-care thing to do is reading and a nice, hot bubble bath. Remember if you plan ahead you don't have to scramble for an idea.


2. Gather Supplies- This tip works out great when you have your ideas pre-planned out. If I know I want to do a movie night then I can ensure that I have the movie already selected whether that be through Netflix, Hulu, or even have to make a quick stop at Redbox. I love to eat snacks when I watch a movie so I make sure I grab my snacks either on my lunch break or prior to me even getting to work so that if I am tired when I get off, which I usually am, that I can just head straight home.

3. Count Your Coins-Ok, this should be self explanatory, but I will still break it down. Whatever you do don't plan for a self-care activity and it's not in your budget. If you plan on getting your nails done plan the money out the right way. If it's going to cost you $50 to get your nails done and you spend about $10/ day buying yourself lunch then plan ahead and pack your lunches for the week and save that $50 for some self-care. If you plan out your self care right you can be well fed and show your nails off.


4. Set The "Do Not Disturb"- If you really need this time to yourself which a lot of us do then don't hesitate to put your phone on do not disturb. Social media and your numerous text messages aren't going anywhere so don't feel bad. Let the people in your house know ahead of time that you have carved this time out for self care so your not available unless it's a emergency. Order the kiddos some take-out and put a movie on for them or let them enjoy an evening of gaming time and get ready to relax.


5. Enjoy Yourself- Remember that everyone deserves self-care so don't feel guilty for taking this time out for yourself. Sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself.
