Everytime I log into my social media, pull up an article, or even watch a YouTube video self-care is the talk of the town. With self-care being such a popular trend right now I've had lots of people ask me, "Why did you choose to focus on self-care?", and that question had a very simple answer. Self-care is something that I need. Being a busy woman I have countless times forgotten to take a moment for myself and after a while it can take a toll on anyone. I don't want to say this as if I'm the only person who experiences this because I know numerous individuals who can relate to my same feelings. The one thing that I regret is waiting until it was too late to realize that "me time" was something that I needed. Self-care was something that I needed. Talking with a couple of my cousins is what sparked up the idea of Self-Care Sundaze. Each Sunday we would send out words of encouragement. advice, ideas of things to do for that day. or a simple joke or meme that would make us laugh. Sunday was a day that most of us as a day for rest or reflection of the past week. We set goals for the upcoming week and get our homes and family in order. Why not use this time to get ourselves in order as well.
We have all heard the saying "You can't pour from an empty cup" and that's what I was doing at times. I sat my kids down and told them what my plan was on certain days and I carved out a certain time frame for doing something that was simply for me and all about me. When I looked up the meaning of self-care it said, "the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health" and that was exactly my plan. We don't truly understand how much running yourself until your cup is empty is not healthy until you have to make that trip to the doctor because you can feel that something isn't right. We have the power to take back our health by doing some of the simplest things and we will begin this journey now.
Each week I will share a new blog post showcasing different things that I do for self-care such as cooking adventures, exploring new wines and spirits, body care products, and different collaborations with other individuals can can add insight to different ways you can express and explore your own self-care. I can't wait to share these exciting experiences with you all.
